LG Display announced that it will showcase next-generation technologies and cutting-edge products at ISE 2011 (Integrated Systems in Europe 2011), scheduled to take place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands from February 1 to 3.

LG Display plans to unveil its cutting-edge technological capacities and next-generation technologies in the area of public display, demonstrating the limitless possibilities of displays.

Jun Joon, Vice President and head of Public Display Department at LG Display noted, “Unlike the TV and IT display markets that have reached maturity and are showing signs of slowing down, the public display market is one of the emerging markets with the highest growth potential. We plan to take an aggressive approach in pioneering the market by introducing our leading technologies to a greater number of customers at the exhibition.”

LCD Panel Featuring the World’s Narrowest Bezel
LG Display will reveal an LCD panel for public displays featuring the world’s narrowest bezel. The public display panel will be shown in a 111-inch multi-vision format featuring nine 37-inch panels. The boarder (bezel) is just 4mm between panels, enabling natural-looking images and the freedom to change the shape and form of public displays.

Also the panel is based on the concept of freely expanding the size of public displays as necessary. With a thinner border allowing for seamless images, there are no limits to the number of panels that can be put together or constraints in terms of screen size or form.

Innovative product: Mirror Display
LG Display will also unveil a 32-inch mirror display at the exhibition. This smart panel, which is a mirror ordinarily, can turns into a display when approached by people or whenever necessary. Working both as a mirror and a screen to display advertisements, the product has high potential for commercialization in the near future.

Next-Generation Technology: Window Display
LG Display will show a wide range of next-generation products. One such product is the advanced 47-inch window display that can be used as a regular window glass and as a transparent display with a mere touch. The panel can not only be used as a ‘smart window’ with its brightness control function for sunlight, but can also be utilized as display screen. The panel can be used in the darkness during the night time by using its LED backlight embedded. Vice versa in a day time, panel can be used without backlight, therefore saving power consumption greatly. Also its touch function (optical touch method using infrared sensor) enables the display to appear like an ordinary window with the button-less design.

LG want to introduce a new OLED-TV panel and also there are some other interesting new products. LG will be unveiling the Smart TV Upgrader (ST600) that makes it easy for viewers to transform their regular TVs into Smart TVs at an affordable price at the CES-2011. Embracing all the benefits of internet connectivity, the Upgrader gives regular TV owners access to all of LG’s Smart TV functions including premium online content, Smart Share and the full range of LG Apps.

“The market for Smart TVs is set to take off this year, and the ST600 offers a perfect entry point,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Home Entertainment Company. “With the LG Smart TV Upgrader, we’re taking the excitement and convenience of Smart TV and adding in LG’s trademark ease-of-use because we see a significant audience who are interested but not interested enough to buy a whole new TV.”

By connecting the ST600 to a regular TV set, users can access a vast range of premium content from global providers, as well as the best locally sourced shows and movies to cater to different tastes around the world. The ST600 also connects users to the growing range of LG Apps, which are custom designed for use on TVs and offer everything from language classes to games.

LG makes the viewing experience more compelling still with its superb compatibility, which lets users simply and wirelessly transfer content from their Digital Living Network Alliance(DLNA)-compatible PCs and other compatible devices for viewing on the big screen.

LG’s Smart TV Upgrader will be unveiled at CES 2011 in Las Vegas and rolled-out to TV owners in the second quarter of 2011.

Module-based OLED, scalable screen allows flexible applications in size, shape.

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced today that it will launch “Diamond Vision OLED,” the world’s first, large-scale display system in the 100-inch and above range that uses organic light emitting diode (OLED) as its light source. Sales will begin worldwide on
September 21. One square meter from the OLED Diamond Vision costs about 35.000 Euros.
The Diamond Vision OLED, designed for indoor use, delivers seamless, vivid images using Mitsubishi Electric’s newly developed video controlling technology. The screen offers wide horizontal and vertical viewing angles reaching approximately ±80 degrees, and features a maximum brightness of 1,200cd/m² and
twice high contrast compared to our LED product, making it suitable for installation in relatively brightly-lit areas such as commercial facilities, stations and airports.
Built by connecting a number of standard modules each measuring 384mm both in height and width and weighing eight kilograms, the Diamond Vision OLED is scalable and can be designed to flexibly form a certain size or shape, even against rounded surfaces. The screen’s 99mm depth enables it to be installed in limited spaces such as narrow paths and station concourses.
The product’s OLED device, jointly developed between Mitsubishi Electric and Tohoku Pioneer Corporation, creates light by a process of electro-luminescence (EL). Each pixel consists of an anode and cathode separated by a thin, organic membrane.

Mitsubishi Electric’s Diamond Vision OLED will be showcased at the company’s booth at CEATEC JAPAN 2010, scheduled to be held from October 5-9 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.

Background
Digital signage systems have recently become widely used around the world to show timely information and advertisements in shopping malls, passenger terminals and public facilities. The installation of such systems must increasingly take into account a variety of spacial and physical limitations and restrictions, as well as
excessive natural light conditions. As a result, there is an increasing demand for scalable displays that can flexibly be formed into the required shapes and sizes while maintaining a high level of picture quality and visibility.

At CEATEC JAPAN 2009, Mitsubishi Electric unveiled the world’s first prototype model of a large-scale OLED display with a 155-inch screen, developed through utilizing the company’s large-scale display technology accumulated from the development of Diamond Vision screens installed at numerous sports stadiums and other public facilities.

Specifications of Diamond Vision OLED Standard Module
Standard Module size H 384mm × W 384mm × D 99mm
